Senator wins defamation appeal against Urimai chief Ramasamy

The High Court in Penang reversed a previous decision by the Sessions Court, which had rejected Dr Lingeshwaran's defamation claim against the Urimai chief, according to court records.

Dr Lingeshwaran, who holds a seat in the upper house of Parliament, had pursued legal action following statements he claimed were defamatory in nature. The Sessions Court had initially ruled against proceeding with the case, prompting the senator to appeal to the higher court.

The High Court's decision to allow the appeal clears the path for the defamation suit against Ramasamy to proceed. The ruling represents a significant development in the legal dispute between the two individuals, whose differences have drawn public attention in recent months.

Ramasamy, who leads the Urimai organisation, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the court's decision. Legal observers note that the High Court's ruling provides grounds for the case to move forward to trial, where the merits of Dr Lingeshwaran's defamation allegations will be examined.
