Senior citizens endure scorching temperatures to vote in Vijayawada

Vijayawada witnessed determined participation from senior citizens on polling day, as voters aged 60 and above navigated sweltering temperatures to exercise their franchise. Election officials reported steady turnout from elderly voters at polling booths throughout the city, despite weather conditions that posed considerable physical challenges.

The extreme heat, typical of Vijayawada during peak summer months, did not deter pensioners and retirees from casting their ballots. Many senior voters arrived early in the morning or waited until late afternoon to avoid the worst of the midday temperatures, according to poll workers stationed at various voting centres.

Election authorities had implemented measures to ensure voter comfort, including arrangements for drinking water and designated seating areas at polling stations. Medical personnel were also positioned at several booths to provide assistance if needed, as officials anticipated health-related concerns among elderly participants.

The strong showing by senior citizens reflected their traditionally high participation rates in electoral processes across India. Officials noted that despite the challenging weather conditions, elderly voters demonstrated the same level of civic engagement observed in previous elections, underscoring their commitment to democratic participation.
