Senior Indian leaders issued notices over Delhi voter roll discrepancies

A nationwide special summary revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi has triggered notices to several high-ranking officials and political figures over discrepancies in their voter information, officials confirmed Sunday. The notices were issued following the publication of draft rolls containing over 97 lakh registered voters in the national capital.

Among those receiving notices are former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Election Commissioner S S Sandhu, according to officials. The electoral registration authority has issued approximately 33.13 lakh such notices across Delhi, primarily addressing mismatches between current voter details and information from the previous SIR conducted in 2002.

The electoral registration officer of the New Delhi assembly constituency clarified in a statement late Sunday that Election Commissioner Sandhu's details have been validated. His name will be restored to the final electoral roll following verification of documents he has submitted, the office said. The notices represent a routine administrative process to ensure accuracy in electoral rolls ahead of future elections, with the verification process continuing for other recipients.
