Dongguk University, one of Seoul's oldest and most respected higher education institutions, announced plans to open a college exclusively serving international students beginning in the 2028 spring semester. The new college will offer six major programs designed to attract foreign learners seeking specialized education in Korean studies and creative industries.
Among the majors available at the new college will be Korean Wave culture studies, filmmaking, and theater and acting. The decision reflects growing global interest in South Korean entertainment, music, and cultural exports, which have achieved unprecedented international prominence in recent years.
The initiative positions Dongguk University to capitalize on surging demand from overseas students seeking to study Korean media production, entertainment, and cultural studies. The dedicated college structure will allow the institution to tailor curricula specifically to international student needs while maintaining distinct academic standards and support services.
The establishment of the international college represents a strategic expansion for Dongguk University, which traces its founding to 1906. The move aligns with South Korea's broader efforts to strengthen its position as a regional education hub and cultural authority, particularly as interest in Korean creative content continues to drive student enrollment from across Asia and beyond.
