Seoul warns North Korea of swift response to further provocations

The warning from Seoul reflects heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula, where the two countries maintain an uneasy military standoff across the heavily fortified border. South Korean officials have expressed concern over the incident, which occurred in the minefield-laden Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) and resulted in injuries to three soldiers.

North Korea has categorically denied involvement in the explosion, dismissing accusations from the South. The denial came amid broader friction between the neighbouring states over military activities and cross-border incidents in the contested region.

Seoul's defence ministry emphasised that any further provocations would be met with a proportionate and decisive military response. Officials stated that South Korea remains vigilant and fully prepared to defend against potential threats, while monitoring developments along the border closely.

The incident underscores the fragile security situation on the peninsula, where military incidents in the DMZ have periodically sparked diplomatic crises. The demilitarised zone, established following the 1953 armistice, remains one of the world's most heavily militarised borders.
