KUALA LUMPUR — The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is actively exploring the possibility of hosting Formula 1 races again, with a comprehensive feasibility study expected to be submitted to the Cabinet in November for consideration.
The study will examine the technical, financial, and operational requirements needed to bring the prestigious motorsport event back to Malaysia's premier racing venue. Officials are assessing various factors including infrastructure upgrades, economic impact, and sponsorship potential to determine the viability of the proposal.
Sepang last hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2017 after staging the event for 19 consecutive years. The circuit has undergone various improvements since then and has continued to host other international racing events and automotive activities.
The Cabinet review will be a critical step in determining whether Malaysia can secure and sustain an F1 race on its calendar. The outcome is expected to provide clarity on the government's commitment to motorsport development and international sporting events in the country.
Official confirmation on the next steps is anticipated following the Cabinet's deliberation on the proposal.
