Serian air quality hits unhealthy levels as haze spreads across region

Serian district has registered an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 218, marking a return to very unhealthy air quality levels in the Sarawak district. The reading places Serian among the most severely affected areas currently experiencing poor air quality in the region.

Beyond Serian, 11 additional areas have reported unhealthy API readings. Ten of these locations are situated across various districts in Sarawak, while one affected area is recorded in Johor, indicating that air quality degradation is spreading across multiple states in Malaysia.

An API reading of 218 falls within the very unhealthy category, which typically prompts health advisories for vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. At such levels, members of the general public may also experience health effects with prolonged exposure.

The widespread reporting of unhealthy air quality across multiple districts suggests potential transboundary haze or localized pollution sources affecting the region.
