TACLOBAN CITY — Seven live protected birds were recovered after law enforcement arrested a man suspected of selling wildlife without proper permits in Ormoc City, Leyte.
The rescued birds included three Rufous Hornbills and two Samar Hornbills, according to a statement released Monday by the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) in Ormoc City. Both hornbill species are classified as protected under Philippine environmental laws, making their illegal trade a serious offense.
The suspect, identified as a resident of Ormoc City, was apprehended during the enforcement operation. Authorities did not disclose additional details about the circumstances of the arrest or the specific permits allegedly lacking in the transaction.
