Seven Sarawak locations record unhealthy air quality levels

Seven locations in Sarawak have been recorded with unhealthy air quality indices, according to recent environmental monitoring data. Serian emerged as the most severely affected area in the state, posting the highest unhealthy air quality readings during the measurement period.

Moderate air quality levels were detected across 32 locations spanning Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. These areas fell within the moderate range but remained below the unhealthy threshold that would trigger health advisories for vulnerable populations.

In contrast, 29 monitoring stations across the three regions registered good air quality, indicating acceptable pollution levels in those areas. The variation in readings highlights the uneven distribution of air quality issues across the region.

The monitoring data underscores ongoing air quality challenges in certain parts of Malaysian Borneo, particularly in Sarawak. Authorities typically recommend that residents in areas with unhealthy air quality limit outdoor activities and consider using air filtration masks, especially for vulnerable groups including children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions.
