Seven fishermen from Tamil Nadu have lost their lives following the capsizing of their vessel off the Andhra Pradesh coast during adverse weather conditions triggered by severe cyclonic storm Murasu, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said in an official statement on Friday.
The boat, carrying nine fishermen, capsized amid rough seas generated by the cyclonic system. The vessel subsequently washed ashore at Kothapatnam beach in Prakasam district. Of the nine aboard, seven are confirmed dead, while two remain unaccounted for.
Naidu directed officials to intensify ongoing search and rescue operations to locate the two missing fishermen. According to officials briefing the chief minister, search efforts have been underway continuously for the past three days following the incident.
The cyclonic storm Murasu, which has brought severe weather conditions across the region, has prompted enhanced maritime safety alerts and restrictions on fishing activities in affected coastal areas.
