Seven Tamil Nadu residents named for Padma Shri honour

Four distinguished artists from Tamil Nadu have been selected for the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to arts and culture. The recipients include veteran actor Sowcar Janaki, classical Sadir dancer R. Muthukannammal, clarinet virtuoso A.K.C. Natarajan, and shehnai maestro S. Ballesh Bhajantri. These selections represent the state's rich cultural heritage and the calibre of performing artists who have shaped India's artistic landscape over decades. The Padma Shri awards, instituted in 1954, recognise distinguished service across various fields including arts, science, literature, sports, public affairs, and social work.
