The India Meteorological Department has placed coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on maximum alert as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab advances eastward. The red alert signals an imminent threat of extreme weather conditions, prompting authorities to activate emergency response protocols across the affected regions.
Odisha has already begun experiencing the cyclone's outer bands, with heavy rain and gusty winds affecting multiple districts on Tuesday. The storm's trajectory poses significant risks to coastal communities and infrastructure in the path of the system. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain indoors and avoid non-essential travel.
Beyond coastal Odisha, the cyclone's impact is expected to extend inland, affecting parts of Jharkhand and eastern Tamil Nadu. State governments have mobilized disaster management teams and prepared relief camps to respond to any emergencies. Power authorities have implemented precautionary measures to mitigate potential outages resulting from high-speed winds.
Fishing operations have been suspended across the Bay of Bengal, and fishermen have been advised to return to shore immediately. The meteorological office continues to update its forecasts as the system progresses, with residents urged to monitor official weather bulletins for the latest information and guidance.
