SFI and KSU split college union victories across Ernakulam campuses

The Student Federation of India (SFI) has secured dominant victories at prominent educational institutions in Ernakulam, sweeping all union positions at Maharaja's College and capturing 13 of 14 seats at St. Peter's College. The communist student wing's strong performance underscores its continued influence in the region's higher education sector.

However, the Kerala Students Union (KSU) has mounted a significant challenge to SFI's dominance, wresting control of student unions from the rival organisation at six colleges, including the prestigious Cochin College. The Christian student organisation's success reflects growing support among sections of the student population across the district.

KSU has also consolidated its position by retaining control of unions at ten colleges, including Sacred Heart College and Sree Sankara College. The group's ability to maintain and expand its footprint suggests a competitive student political landscape in Ernakulam.

The college union elections, closely monitored as indicators of student political sentiment, have resulted in a divided outcome across the district's institutions. While SFI's strong showings at individual colleges demonstrate pockets of substantial support, KSU's gains and retentions indicate that student preferences remain diverse across different campuses in the region.
