SFI stages relay fast against student suspension extension at SSUS

Activists from the Student Federation of India (SFI) have initiated a relay fast at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in protest against the extended suspension of four students by the university administration. The demonstration seeks an unconditional withdrawal of the disciplinary action against the affected students.

According to the university's decision, the suspension of the four students was extended for an additional two months. The extension came amid charges that the students were actively involved in SFI's organizational work during a period when such activities were subject to disciplinary restrictions imposed by the institution.

The SFI has characterized the suspension as an overreach by the university administration and a violation of student rights. The federation is demanding that the institution immediately revoke the suspension order without conditions, arguing that student participation in campus organizations is a legitimate activity protected under democratic principles.

The relay fast represents an escalation of the SFI's campaign against what it views as punitive measures targeting student activism. The protest highlights ongoing tensions between student organizations and university authorities over the scope of permissible campus activism and the application of disciplinary rules.
