Security has been tightened across Shillong as authorities prepare for the Vice President's upcoming visit to Meghalaya's capital. The heightened alert follows a series of overnight incidents on Saturday when tyres were burnt at four separate locations across the city.
The incidents were reported from Motphran, Malki Point, Don Bosco and near Wok Restaurant in Laitumkhrah. Local police and administration officials responded swiftly to the incidents, bringing them under control before any major disturbance could escalate.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the tyre burning incidents remain unclear, authorities have not ruled out any angle. Security personnel have been deployed at key points throughout the city to ensure law and order ahead of the Vice President's scheduled engagement.
Meghalaya Police stated that they are monitoring the situation closely and have stepped up patrolling in sensitive areas. Additional checkpoints have been established at entry and exit points of the city as a precautionary measure. Officials urged residents to remain calm and assured them that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain peace and security during the visit.
