Shimla experienced seismic activity in the early hours of Wednesday, October 17, when an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the region at 4:36 a.m., according to data from the National Centre for Seismology.

The tremor was recorded at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres, classified as a relatively shallow earthquake. Officials from the National Centre for Seismology validated the readings and provided official confirmation of the event.

The earthquake, while moderate in intensity, was felt across the Shimla district and surrounding areas. Residents reported being awakened by the tremor, though there were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties from the seismic event.

The Himachal Pradesh region, situated in the seismically active zone of the Indian Himalayas, experiences periodic earthquake activity. Geological surveys indicate the state lies along major fault lines that continue to influence tectonic activity in the region.
