The suspension comes weeks after a similar incident in which Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre was arrested on July 6 for allegedly attacking doctors at a private hospital in Thane. The repeated nature of such incidents has drawn attention to discipline within the party ranks.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who heads a faction of the Shiv Sena, moved swiftly to distance the party from the latest incident by suspending the accused leader. The action reflects an effort to address public concern over violent conduct by politicians.
The hospital assault cases have raised questions about the treatment of medical professionals and highlighted tensions between political figures and healthcare workers in the state. Medical associations had previously expressed concern over the safety of doctors following the Thane incident.
