Shiv Sena leader Raut seeks unconditional apology from Supreme Court

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut submitted an affidavit seeking unconditional pardon from the Supreme Court regarding his recent comments targeting the Chief Justice of India and the judicial system. In the affidavit, Raut stated he had no intention to scandalise or show disrespect to the court through his remarks.

The development comes after Raut's absence during a Supreme Court hearing on October 28, when no advocate appeared on his behalf despite the case being listed for arguments. The bench expressed displeasure at his non-appearance and took cognisance of the matter.

During the October 28 proceedings, the Supreme Court issued a directive requiring Raut to present himself personally before the court at the next hearing scheduled for November 17. The mandatory personal appearance underscores the court's seriousness in addressing allegations of contempt.

Raut's unconditional apology represents an apparent attempt to resolve the contempt proceedings initiated against him. The case centres on statements he made that were perceived as critical of the judiciary and its highest-ranking officer. The November 17 hearing will determine whether the court accepts the apology and what further action, if any, it deems appropriate.
