Shooter drove onto Ateneo de Zamboanga campus, bypassing pedestrian security
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla revealed that the gunman who carried out a fatal shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University's junior high school accessed the campus by vehicle. The disclosure raises questions about vehicular security protocols at the institution.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has disclosed that the perpetrator of the fatal shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) Junior High School entered the campus grounds by car, circumventing standard pedestrian entry procedures.
Remulla explained that Ateneo's security system typically requires pedestrian visitors to pass through designated gates where bag inspections are conducted. However, the shooter was able to drive directly onto campus, effectively bypassing these initial security checkpoints.
The revelation points to potential gaps in the university's vehicular access control measures. While the institution maintains protocols for screening individuals entering on foot, the same level of scrutiny does not appear to have been applied to vehicles accessing the campus.
The shooting, which claimed multiple lives, has prompted renewed scrutiny of security procedures at educational institutions across the Philippines. Officials have not yet disclosed whether additional security enhancements have been implemented at ADZU or other schools in response to the incident.
The investigation into the attack continues, with authorities examining all circumstances surrounding how the gunman gained access to the campus.
