Shoppers Stop swings to profit in Q2 on premiumisation push

Shoppers Stop Ltd has reported a turnaround to profitability in the July-September quarter of FY27, marking a significant recovery from the comparable period last year when it posted a net loss of ₹20.11 crore. The luxury fashion and lifestyle retailer logged a net profit of ₹3.11 crore during the quarter, signalling improved operational performance.

Revenue from operations during Q2 FY27 reached ₹1,366.27 crore, representing year-on-year growth of 8.72 per cent. The expansion was driven by the company's strategic focus on premiumisation, which has helped enhance margins and improve customer demographics across its store network.

The company's pivot towards higher-value merchandise and premium brands has contributed to stronger profitability despite a modest top-line growth rate. This strategy reflects broader shifts in retail consumption patterns in India's urban markets, where affluent consumers continue to drive demand for curated luxury offerings.

The quarterly results underscore Shoppers Stop's efforts to strengthen its position in India's premium retail segment, which has shown resilience amidst broader economic uncertainties. The retailer operates a chain of department stores across major Indian cities, positioning itself as a destination for branded fashion and lifestyle products.
