Showroom employee arrested for stealing Rs 23 lakh car in Bhopal

The theft came to light after an employee of a Bhopal-based car dealership made off with the vehicle on the night of September 28. The accused had booked the car under the name of a customer before absconding with the keys and the automobile itself, according to police officials.
The swift recovery of the stolen vehicle was aided by the car's GPS tracking system, which allowed authorities to pinpoint its location even as CCTV footage from the showroom failed to provide clear visual identification of the suspect's face. Officers traced the vehicle to a location near Ashima Mall in the city.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the wife of the accused operating the vehicle, leading investigators directly to the suspect. The case highlights the growing reliance on vehicle tracking technology in motor theft investigations across Indian cities.
Authorities have registered a case against the employee under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations into whether others were involved in the theft are ongoing.
