The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has scheduled a mass protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for Saturday to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party alleges serious irregularities in the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In response to the planned demonstration, authorities have taken unprecedented preventive measures. The Railway Board cancelled Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10. Additionally, Delhi Police requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation shut down 57 metro stations to restrict the movement of potential protesters.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the government's response on Friday, asserting that if authorities feared the youth, they might as well shut down the entire country. His remarks came in response to the train cancellations and metro station closures announced to manage the anticipated crowd.
The standoff highlights mounting tensions between the government and activist groups over electoral administration. The CJP's allegations centre on irregularities in the electoral roll revision process, a matter that has sparked significant public concern.
