SIA inks major sustainable aviation fuel deal with Aether Singapore

Singapore Airlines has agreed to procure up to 4,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Aether's Singapore production facility, marking a major commitment to cleaner aviation operations in the region.

The fuel will be manufactured using proprietary technology that converts waste carbon feedstocks into usable jet fuel, addressing both sustainability and waste management challenges. Aether's Singapore plant represents a key supply source for the airline's transition toward lower-emission flight operations.

Sustainable aviation fuel has emerged as a critical component of the aviation industry's decarbonization strategy. The fuel can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel, while being compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure without requiring engine modifications.

Singapore Airlines joins a growing number of carriers globally pursuing SAF sourcing agreements as regulatory pressures mount and environmental commitments deepen. The agreement underscores the airline's commitment to achieving net-zero aviation targets while supporting the development of local green technology infrastructure.

The procurement arrangement reinforces Singapore's position as a regional hub for sustainable aviation innovation and supports broader efforts to advance decarbonization across South and Southeast Asia's aviation sector.
