Siddaramaiah backs student groups to develop OBC campus leadership

Siddaramaiah has thrown his weight behind student collectives aimed at developing leadership capabilities among Other Backward Classes (OBC) students across educational institutions in Karnataka. The Shudra Seva Sanghas, set to operate on campuses, represent an initiative to organise and mobilise OBC student communities around their shared interests.

In their initial phase, the Sanghas will concentrate on student-centric issues that directly impact campus life and academic experience. Priority areas identified include improvements to hostel hygiene and basic living conditions, sanitation facilities, transportation services, and sports infrastructure development across institutions.

The groups will also facilitate access to essential administrative services for students, including assistance with obtaining caste and income certificates—documents often critical for availing reservations and welfare benefits. The Sanghas will additionally focus on streamlining admission-related processes and addressing other systemic student concerns.

The initiative underscores efforts to create grassroots platforms where marginalised student communities can organise collectively and develop leadership capacities. By addressing immediate campus grievances, the Sanghas aim to build a foundation for sustained student engagement and representation in higher education institutions across the state.
