Sikkim landslide destroys homes as heavy rains batter Gyalshing district

A significant landslide swept through Rimbi village late Thursday night, causing extensive destruction across the settlement in Sikkim's Gyalshing district. Local officials confirmed on Friday that several houses were either destroyed or heavily damaged in the incident, which was triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region.

Government-owned accommodations were among the structures affected by the landslide. Despite the scale of the damage, district authorities confirmed there were no fatalities reported from the incident.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang responded to the disaster by prioritizing the safety and welfare of affected residents. He instructed local authorities to heighten vigilance, maintain close monitoring of the situation, and implement comprehensive measures to safeguard the community amid the ongoing heavy downpours.

Tamang appealed to residents in the affected areas to remain alert while adhering to official advisories and supporting each other through the crisis. State authorities are actively implementing protective measures as the region continues to experience torrential rainfall.
