LUCENA CITY — Siltation at the Pansipit River has emerged as one of the primary causes of the ongoing water level rise in Taal Lake, according to findings from a multi-agency consultation convened by the Batangas provincial government on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Accumulated soil and sand deposits have significantly impeded the flow of water through the waterway, reducing its discharge capacity and preventing normal drainage from the lake. The buildup represents a critical infrastructure challenge that has compounded the region's flooding and water management concerns.
The consultation brought together multiple government agencies to establish a coordinated response strategy and develop solutions to mitigate the water rise.
