Simple Trick Keeps Flowers Fresh Longer for Home Rituals

Flowers are an integral part of daily prayers and household rituals across India, yet blooms from market purchases frequently fade within hours. The premature wilting of marigolds, roses, and other popular flowers used in puja has long frustrated households seeking to maintain their aesthetic appeal and freshness throughout the day.

The primary cause of rapid flower deterioration stems from inadequate hydration after purchase. Once cut flowers are separated from their root systems, they require consistent moisture and proper care to survive in home settings. Without appropriate preservation methods, flowers lose water through their stems and petals, causing them to droop and discolor prematurely.

Horticulturists recommend a simple yet effective approach: immediately place freshly purchased flowers in clean water mixed with a small quantity of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice. This combination provides essential nutrients while the acidic environment prevents bacterial growth in the water. Keeping the flowers in a cool location away from direct sunlight further extends their lifespan.

Additionally, changing the water daily and trimming the flower stems at a 45-degree angle every two days significantly improves water absorption. Removing lower leaves that would submerge in water also prevents bacterial contamination. With these basic maintenance steps, devotees can maintain their flowers in fresh condition for extended periods, ensuring their prayer arrangements remain vibrant and presentable.
