Air quality across Singapore has taken a sharp turn for the worse, with the western region experiencing very unhealthy pollution levels as haze continues to affect the island-state. The 24-hour PSI reading in the west climbed to 228 at 7am, significantly exceeding the threshold for "very unhealthy" air quality, which poses risks to the general public.
Other regions of Singapore reported less severe but still concerning readings. The eastern, central, and northern areas recorded PSI levels ranging between 129 and 185, placing them in the unhealthy category. These levels are approaching thresholds that warrant health advisories for vulnerable populations.
The deterioration in air quality follows recurring transboundary haze events that have affected Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region. Residents, particularly those in western areas, are advised to limit outdoor activities and consider using air purifiers or masks when venturing outside.
The National Environment Agency continues to monitor air quality conditions closely. The PSI is updated regularly to provide residents with real-time information on air pollution levels and associated health risks.
