Singapore air quality deteriorates as PSI reaches unhealthy levels
Air pollution levels across Singapore have worsened, with the central region recording a Pollutant Standards Index reading of 120 at 9pm on Tuesday. Eastern Singapore and at least one other area have also been classified as having unhealthy air quality.

The PSI reading in Singapore's central region surpassed the 100-mark threshold that denotes unhealthy air quality, climbing to 120 by 9pm. This marked a significant deterioration from earlier in the day as air quality conditions worsened across the island.
Eastern Singapore recorded a PSI of 102, placing it in the unhealthy range alongside the central region. A second area has also been classified as experiencing unhealthy air quality, though specific PSI figures for all affected zones were not immediately available.
Readings in the unhealthy range, typically between 101 and 200 on the PSI scale, indicate that members of the general public may experience health effects with prolonged exposure. The National Environment Agency monitors air quality across Singapore's five regions throughout the day, with real-time PSI updates provided hourly.
The degradation in air quality may be attributed to transboundary haze and local pollution sources. Authorities advise members of the public, particularly those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activities and consider using N95 masks when venturing outside during periods of poor air quality.
