Singapore's air quality took a turn for the worse overnight, with pollution levels climbing back into the unhealthy category as haze conditions affected the island-state. The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index in the central region stood at 110 as of 6am, indicating unhealthy air conditions for the general population. The western region recorded a PSI of 102, also within the unhealthy range.
The deterioration marks a reversal from earlier conditions and signals renewed transboundary pollution affecting the island. An unhealthy PSI typically prompts health advisories, particularly for vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
Authorities have not yet issued specific guidance on the cause of the overnight spike. Residents are advised to monitor air quality updates from the National Environment Agency, which provides real-time PSI readings across five monitoring stations throughout Singapore.
