Singapore Airlines to source sustainable jet fuel from local waste-to-fuel plant

Singapore Airlines has signed a procurement agreement with Aether Beacon to source sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced at a new facility in Singapore. Under the three-year deal, the airline will purchase up to 4,800 tonnes of the next-generation fuel, which is manufactured from waste gases through an advanced conversion process.

The agreement marks a significant step in SIA's sustainability initiatives as the carrier seeks to reduce its carbon footprint. Sustainable aviation fuel is recognised internationally as a key technology for lowering aviation emissions, with the ability to cut lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel when produced from eligible feedstocks.

Aether Beacon's production method transforms waste gases into usable jet fuel, offering an alternative to conventional fuel production while addressing waste management challenges. The facility's location in Singapore positions the airline to access locally produced SAF, supporting regional supply chain development in the sustainable fuels sector.

The procurement aligns with Singapore Airlines' broader environmental commitments and reflects growing industry momentum toward adopting sustainable aviation fuel. Airlines globally are increasingly seeking SAF supplies as they work toward decarbonisation goals and respond to regulatory requirements for cleaner aviation operations.
