Singapore's vehicle registration costs have increased across most categories, reflecting continued demand for limited road space in the city-state. The Category A COE, which covers cars up to 1,600 cubic centimetres and 130 horsepower, climbed 3.7 per cent to $128,501, while motorcycle premiums recorded the sharpest gain at 7.6 per cent to $11,301.
The increases underscore the persistent pressure on Singapore's vehicle ownership costs as the government manages congestion and environmental concerns through its certificate system. The COE scheme allocates a fixed number of vehicle registrations quarterly, with prices determined by open bidding from potential buyers.
Motorcycle owners faced the most significant premium jump among all categories in the latest tender, suggesting growing interest in this transport segment. The rises come as Singapore continues to balance vehicle growth with sustainability goals and road capacity constraints in one of the world's most densely populated urban areas.
