Singapore COE prices retreat across all vehicle categories

Singapore's Certificate of Entitlement prices have eased across all vehicle categories in the latest round of bidding, retreating from peaks reached on September 9.

Category A COEs, which cover vehicles up to 1,600cc, dropped to $131,890, marking a pullback from the record levels achieved just days earlier. The decline reflects a broader softening in demand across the automotive market, with premiums falling for both petrol and diesel vehicles in the mainstream segments.

Motorcycle COEs experienced the most pronounced percentage decrease among the various categories, signalling reduced competition among two-wheeler buyers. The pullback across categories suggests the spike in prices witnessed earlier this month may have dampened purchasing intent, leading bidders to adopt more cautious strategies in subsequent rounds.

The COE system, which regulates vehicle ownership in the densely populated city-state through a competitive bidding mechanism, remains a critical indicator of market sentiment. The recent volatility underscores the sensitivity of Singapore's automotive sector to economic conditions and buyer behaviour shifts.
