Singapore completes rollout of new Alstom trains on core MRT lines
SMRT has taken delivery of the final train from the 106-strong Alstom Movia R151 fleet, marking the completion of a major modernisation programme for the North-South and East-West lines.

Singapore's rapid transit system has reached a significant milestone with the handover of the 106th train from French manufacturer Alstom's Movia R151 fleet to operator SMRT. The completion of the rollout represents the full deployment of the new train sets across the North-South and East-West lines, two of the city-state's busiest transport corridors.
The Movia R151 trains are the latest generation of rolling stock to serve Singapore's MRT network. The comprehensive fleet modernisation programme has seen the systematic replacement of older trains with the new units, which are designed to enhance capacity and improve service reliability on the two key lines.
The North-South and East-West lines form the backbone of Singapore's rapid transit network, carrying hundreds of thousands of commuters daily. The introduction of the new fleet supports the Land Transport Authority's broader objectives of maintaining service quality and meeting growing transport demand across the metropolitan area.
The completion of the deployment follows a phased introduction schedule that has spanned several years. SMRT is now responsible for the operation and maintenance of the expanded Movia R151 fleet as part of its ongoing management of the MRT system.
