Singapore F1 organisers ready with haze contingency plans

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has confirmed comprehensive contingency arrangements are in place ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix at Marina Bay, with protocols calibrated to respond to various air quality scenarios.

The measures are designed to safeguard spectator health and event operations should regional haze conditions affect Singapore during the racing weekend. The tiered approach accounts for different air quality levels, allowing organisers to implement proportionate responses ranging from precautionary to protective interventions.

Under the contingency framework, medical assistance will be made available at the circuit if air quality deteriorates. N95 masks will also be stockpiled and distributed to attendees as required, depending on the Pollutant Standards Index readings recorded during the event.

The protocols underscore STB's commitment to maintaining the internationally significant motorsport event while prioritising public health. The contingency planning reflects Singapore's experience managing seasonal transboundary haze, which periodically affects air quality across the region.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit, which hosts the only night-time Formula One race on the international calendar, attracts tens of thousands of spectators annually and generates substantial economic activity for the city-state.
