Singapore files charges against Eric Tan linked to Jho Low

Singapore's legal authorities have filed charges against Eric Tan in relation to the movement of over USD1 billion in funds traced to 1MDB and SRC International during the 2013-2014 period. Tan is understood to have connections to Jho Low, the Malaysian financier at the centre of one of Asia's largest financial scandals.

According to court filings, the stolen funds from 1MDB and SRC International were allegedly channelled through four separate corporate entities during this timeframe. This represents a significant portion of the funds that disappeared during the height of the fund misappropriation scheme that has drawn scrutiny from authorities across multiple jurisdictions.

The Singapore action marks the latest development in the ongoing international investigation into the 1MDB scandal. Jho Low remains a fugitive, with authorities in Malaysia, Singapore, the United States and other countries pursuing multiple cases related to the alleged theft and subsequent movement of state development fund assets.

The charges against Tan underscore how funds siphoned from Malaysian institutions were allegedly moved across borders through sophisticated corporate structures. Investigators have previously identified Singapore as a key node in the network used to move and launder the misappropriated funds throughout the region.
