Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has called on Chinese business communities to strike a balance between nurturing emerging talent and retaining the institutional knowledge of veteran employees. Speaking to business leaders, Mr Wong emphasised that companies must create pathways for next-generation workers while continuing to tap into the expertise of their more experienced counterparts. The dual approach, he suggested, would strengthen organisational capacity and ensure continuity of leadership.
Beyond succession planning, Mr Wong stressed the urgency of business transformation in an increasingly competitive regional landscape. Rather than waiting for external pressures to force change, companies should proactively adapt their operations, strategies and business models, he advised. This forward-thinking approach would position firms to anticipate market shifts and maintain competitive advantage.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the strategic value of expanding overseas networks for Singapore-based Chinese businesses. Broadening international connections and market reach would open new opportunities for growth and resilience, particularly as regional economies become more interconnected. Mr Wong's remarks underscored Singapore's continuing emphasis on business agility and regional economic engagement.
