Singapore firms must prioritise worker welfare during digital transformation

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has called on Singapore companies to place worker welfare at the centre of their transformation efforts, rather than treating human resources as a secondary consideration in their digital and business strategies.

Addressing the need for coordinated support during periods of rapid change, Wong highlighted the importance of proactive workforce planning as firms modernise operations and adopt new technologies.

To facilitate this transition, the Skills and Careers Group has unveiled Connect by SWDA, a new integrated centre designed to support workers affected by business transformation. The facility will consolidate career guidance services, employment support programmes and professional training opportunities in a single location, streamlining access to resources for those seeking to upskill or transition between roles.

The initiative reflects growing recognition that successful organisational transformation depends not only on technological investment but also on sustaining and developing the workforce. By providing centralised support, the centre aims to help workers prepare for evolving job market demands and pursue meaningful career progression during periods of industry change.
