Singapore-Johor Rapid Transit Link pushed back to February 2027
The long-awaited cross-border rail connection between Singapore and Johor Bahru has been delayed, with the project now expected to commence operations in February 2027 instead of its previously scheduled timeline.

The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, a key infrastructure project linking Singapore's Woodlands checkpoint with Johor Bahru's city centre, will not open until early 2027, marking another delay for the project that has faced multiple postponements since its announcement.
The revised completion date comes as both Singapore and Malaysian authorities continue to work through final construction and regulatory requirements for the cross-border rail corridor. When operational, the RTS Link is expected to significantly ease congestion at the Causeway and Second Link by providing an alternative transport mode for the estimated 300,000 commuters who cross the border daily.
The 4.2-kilometre automated people mover system will feature four stations: three in Singapore at Woodlands, Bukit Chagar, and Boon Lay, and one in Malaysia. The project is being jointly developed by Singapore's Land Transport Authority and Malaysia's Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.
The extension to February 2027 represents the latest in a series of delays, as the project has faced challenges related to construction complexity, land acquisition, and inter-agency coordination between the two countries. Officials from both governments have emphasised the importance of ensuring quality and safety standards throughout the construction process.
