Singapore maintains steady monetary policy amid inflation headwinds
Singapore's central bank has decided to hold its monetary policy settings as it balances inflation concerns with support for economic growth. The Monetary Authority of Singapore expects the Singapore dollar's continued appreciation to help mitigate imported inflation pressures over the coming year.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has opted to maintain its current monetary policy stance, keeping the exchange rate-centered framework unchanged despite near-term inflation risks facing the city-state economy.
Under the existing appreciating policy band, the Singapore dollar is expected to strengthen further in coming months, providing a natural hedge against rising import prices. MAS officials indicated this currency appreciation should help offset anticipated increases in imported inflation and gradually ease overall price pressures beginning in 2027.
The decision reflects MAS's confidence in managing inflation through the exchange rate mechanism rather than adjusting interest rates. Officials believe the current approach strikes an appropriate balance between controlling price growth and supporting the broader economic environment.
The monetary policy decision comes as Singapore prepares to assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2027 and intensifies efforts to strengthen risk management frameworks in its financial sector, including enhanced AI governance standards.
