Singapore and Malaysia have agreed to expand their cross-border taxi arrangement, raising the vehicle quota for each country to 500 taxis and introducing two additional ride-hailing platforms to the scheme. The expansion takes effect on November 16.
CDG Zig and Kumpool will become licensed operators alongside Grab, which currently operates as the sole ride-hailing provider under the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme. The addition of new players aims to enhance service options and capacity for commuters traveling between the two countries.
The increased quota represents a significant expansion of the existing arrangement, which allows taxis and ride-hailing vehicles to operate across the Singapore-Malaysia border. The scheme facilitates seamless travel for passengers making trips between both nations while maintaining regulatory oversight from transport authorities in each country.
The expansion reflects growing demand for cross-border mobility services in the region. Both governments have signaled their commitment to enhancing connectivity and travel convenience for residents while ensuring service quality and safety standards are maintained throughout the scheme's operation.
