Singapore man sentenced after fleeing brawl, arrested in Malaysia

Marcus Yeo Zhen Wei has received a custodial sentence in Singapore following his arrest and extradition from Malaysia. Yeo fled to the neighbouring country in 2021 after involvement in a brawl, evading local law enforcement.

He was subsequently detained in Malaysia in 2022 on drug-related offences. The exact nature of the drug charge and circumstances of his detention remain unclear. Malaysian authorities cooperated with Singapore counterparts on the matter.

Yeo was extradited to Singapore in 2025 to face justice for the original 2021 incident. Upon his return, he was prosecuted and convicted, resulting in the jail sentence handed down by the court.

The case highlights ongoing cross-border law enforcement cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia in pursuing individuals wanted for criminal offences in either jurisdiction.
