Singapore not planning more PM2.5 forecasts, minister says

The Ministry for Sustainability and the Environment does not intend to expand its air quality forecasting capabilities beyond current measures, according to Grace Fu, who cautioned against information overload affecting public understanding.

Fu indicated that introducing multiple PM2.5 forecasting systems could potentially confuse residents rather than provide clarity on air quality conditions. The government currently relies on established air quality monitoring and forecasting frameworks to keep the public informed.

During parliamentary proceedings, Fu also fielded questions regarding the distribution of protective masks to residents and efforts to maintain healthy indoor air quality standards across public and private facilities. These matters form part of Singapore's broader environmental health and sustainability agenda.

The minister's comments reflect the government's measured approach to public health communication, balancing the need for timely air quality information with the risk of information fragmentation confusing the population during episodes of poor air quality.
