Singapore's rapid transit network will expand on December 26 with the opening of three new stations: Bedok South and Sungei Bedok on the Thomson-East Coast Line, and Xilin on the Downtown Line. The three stations are expected to enhance connectivity for residents in the eastern part of the island while streamlining travel routes to Johor Bahru across the Causeway. The new stations form part of Singapore's ongoing infrastructure development to improve public transport accessibility and reduce commute times across the island.
Bedok South and Sungei Bedok stations on the TEL will serve the densely populated eastern residential areas, offering residents more convenient interchange points within the transport network. These stations are strategically positioned to facilitate easier access to major commercial and residential hubs in the Bedok region. The addition of Xilin station on the DTL further strengthens the cross-island connectivity, providing commuters with alternative routes and reducing overcrowding on existing lines.
The expansion reflects Singapore's commitment to enhancing public transport infrastructure as part of long-term urban mobility planning. With these stations operational, commuters from the east will benefit from reduced travel times to various parts of the island, including more efficient connections to Woodlands and the Causeway. The three new stations are expected to ease congestion during peak hours and provide residents with greater flexibility in journey planning.
