Singapore's healthcare system will expand support for vulnerable patient groups with the introduction of specialized services at three polyclinics by 2028, officials announced. The initiative aims to provide more inclusive and accessible care for persons with disabilities and those on the autism spectrum.

The enhanced services will include extended consultation periods to accommodate patients who may require additional time with healthcare providers. Polyclinics will also implement pre-visit preparation programmes, allowing patients and their caregivers to familiarize themselves with clinic procedures and environments prior to appointments, reducing anxiety and improving treatment outcomes.

The three polyclinics selected for the pilot programme will serve as models for potential future expansion across Singapore's primary healthcare network. The move reflects growing recognition of the specific healthcare needs of persons with disabilities and autism, who often face barriers accessing standard medical services.

Healthcare providers will receive training to better serve these patient populations, ensuring staff are equipped to provide dignified and appropriate care. The initiative is expected to improve health outcomes and enhance the overall experience for some of Singapore's most vulnerable citizens and their families.
