Singapore prisons to deploy conflict-prevention robots from October

The Singapore Prison Service will introduce robotic systems capable of intervening in prison altercations as part of a pilot programme launching in October. One robot will be stationed at each of three separate correctional institutions during the trial period, which is scheduled to run until January.

The initiative represents an effort to enhance safety management within prisons while reducing the risk to staff during confrontational incidents. Prison authorities have determined that the robotic systems can assist in de-escalating conflicts before they escalate into more serious situations.

The four-month deployment will allow the Singapore Prison Service to assess the effectiveness and operational feasibility of the technology within its facilities. Data gathered during the trial will inform decisions regarding broader implementation across the prison system.
