Singapore's vehicle quota for the November 2024 to January 2025 period will rise by more than 1 per cent compared to the previous cycle, the Land Transport Authority announced. The increased allocation brings the total COE quota to 19,298 vehicles across all categories.
The quota adjustment reflects shifting demand patterns in the vehicle market. Larger cars will benefit from a roughly 3 per cent increase in available certificates, potentially easing supply constraints in that segment. This uptick suggests growing interest in bigger vehicles among Singapore's car-buying public.
Motorcycle quotas, however, will contract by approximately 2 per cent, signalling a modest tightening in the two-wheeler market. The modest overall increase underscores the government's careful calibration of vehicle growth to manage congestion and environmental concerns on the island's roads.
The COE system remains a cornerstone of Singapore's vehicle ownership framework, with quota levels adjusted regularly to balance transportation needs against infrastructure capacity. The upcoming three-month period's allocation continues this measured approach to managing the vehicle population.
