Singapore's air quality remains unhealthy as haze drifts from Indonesian islands

Air quality across Singapore has remained in the unhealthy range as transboundary haze continues to impact the city-state, authorities said. The National Environment Agency (NEA) attributed the persistent poor air conditions to smoke drifting from central and southern Sumatra as well as multiple regions in Kalimantan.

Currently prevailing southeasterly to southerly winds are channeling the smoke haze toward Singapore, where it is expected to linger in the coming period. The agency did not specify when conditions might improve, though it indicated that wind patterns would play a critical role in determining the trajectory and intensity of the haze affecting the island.

Residents have been advised to take precautions to protect their health during the period of poor air quality. The NEA typically recommends that vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or heart conditions, limit outdoor activities and consider wearing N95 masks when venturing outside.

Transboundary haze from Indonesian forest and land fires has become a recurring seasonal concern for Singapore, typically worsening during the dry months when fires are more prevalent in the region.
