The Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) has issued guidance recommending that Singaporean Muslims assess security risks before proceeding with Umrah trips to Saudi Arabia. The advisory comes amid reported safety concerns in the region and represents a precautionary stance by the Islamic religious authority.
In response to the situation, MUIS has engaged with Umrah travel agents to ensure pilgrims receive accurate information regarding current conditions. The council is encouraging operators to work cooperatively with travellers who have existing bookings, prioritising their ability to postpone or reschedule journeys where feasible.
"MUIS is encouraging Umrah travel agents to help those with existing bookings with clear information and, where possible, flexible arrangements for postponing or rescheduling their trips," a spokesperson said.
The guidance reflects MUIS's commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Singapore's Muslim community while respecting individual decision-making. Pilgrims are advised to stay informed through official channels and consult with travel providers regarding their specific circumstances before making final decisions about their travel plans.
