Singapore's public transport operator is set to deploy a new fleet of electric buses from the end of 2026, incorporating design refinements based on direct commuter input. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has prioritised accessibility improvements across the new vehicles, with step-free aisles designed to facilitate easier movement for elderly passengers, persons with disabilities, and those travelling with luggage or prams.
Double-decker buses in the new fleet will feature specially designed on-board lighting systems, addressing visibility concerns raised by commuters. The lighting upgrades are intended to enhance safety and comfort for passengers during evening and night-time services.
The decision to incorporate user feedback into the design specifications reflects the LTA's commitment to improving the commuter experience as Singapore transitions toward a more sustainable public transport system. Electric buses are expected to significantly reduce emissions while maintaining service reliability across the island's extensive bus network.
The rollout of these enhanced vehicles represents a continued investment in modernising Singapore's bus fleet. The LTA has previously indicated that the transition to electric buses forms a key component of the nation's broader sustainability and green transport objectives.
